Celebrate Christmas in South Africa

Celebrate Christmas in South Africa

South African Christmas 2021

Ask any child around the world, “When is Christmas”, and they will respond, without even blinking: “Christmas is on the 25th of December, every year”. While the specific day of the week varies, the calendar date is set in stone, Christmas Day is a static holiday that occurs on the same date each year.

When Is Christmas 2022?

Christmas in South Africa is no exception. Christmas Day 2022 will fall on a Sunday, which is the perfect opportunity to have a festive braai with your loved ones.

What Are Some Christmas Traditions?

According to Western Orthodox tradition, the 12 days of Christmas – or Christmas Tide - begins on the 25th of December and these days are celebrated in varying degrees, according to different cultures. Each evening or day is in celebration of a different saint. Some cultures give a gift on every evening of the twelve days, hence the song, “The 12 Days of Christmas”.

However, in more recent years the tradition of celebrating for 12 days has fallen away and families generally celebrate Christmas with an exchange of gifts and a large feast with all sorts of traditional dishes, dressed in paper crowns on the night of the 25th.

Where Can I Find Christmas Gifts Online?

In theory, you have 11 months to get your festive gifts organised, as the festive season comes at the end of the year. But we understand if you have left it a bit late, that's where NetFlorist comes in! The holiday season is filled with parties and events, dinners and lunches - it is a non-stop season of fun, and you might simply not find the time to go gift shopping.

Most shopping centres start getting into the festive spirit in about mid-October with Christmas lights and decorations going up all over the place. Santa’s grottos spring up like wild mushrooms and children everywhere start to behave in order to get off Santa’s naughty list and become top of the nice list.

If you haven’t done so already, mark off the 25th of December with a big red permanent marker and make sure you have everything prepared for the festive occasion. Don't wait to get gifting or avoid the rush completely by shopping through NetFlorist's online Christmas store, where you can order your gifts for delivery. Explore fabulous gifts for her and him, like man crates, bath and body gifts, jewellery, personalised gifts, and even gifts for the whole family to enjoy!
